| Children’s Facilities & Policy |
At Bukela children are allowed to do all the activities with their parents. They can venture on game drives together with an experienced ranger, eat meals together in the family dining room and partake in the children’s activities too!Children’s activities at Bukela include:
- Supervised walking “insect safaris” by day or by torch light, where children are encouraged to find and identify different insect species;
- Drumming with our Xhosa dancers and singers;
- Swimming;
- There is a Television, Video and Board games library;
- Special Mini Safari (see description below)
- Flintstone Site Excursion (see description below)
Bukela Game Lodge also offers:
- special kiddies meals;
- baby sitting services; and
- Special occasions such as birthday parties can be catered for.
Special Mini Safari
A qualified ranger accompanies the children and parents on a game drive to explore the bush in a game vehicle. Each child receives a “bush activity pack” with fun tasks to complete. Children will experience the bush using all their senses - touching, tasting, seeing, smelling, hearing and experiencing the different elements of the bush. The Mini Safari also includes an Archaeology and Paleontology Excursion. The Eastern Cape is rich in Archaeological and Paleontological history. During the last century the first Stegosaur skeleton was documented in South Africa. Children will be encouraged to “discover Dinosaurs” with an accompanying ranger.Flintstone site Excursion
The Krantz formations along the Bushman’s River in the reserve represent a cross section of time extending back 800 million years and there are various interesting fossils, which lie exposed on and around the reserve. Children are taken to the Flintstone site and the ranger and children will search for Flintstones!
The Lodge is situated overlooking a small dam frequented by Buffalo and enjoys maximum seclusion afforded by a surrounding riverine forest. Inspired by the warmth and generosity of African custom, Bukela features 4 luxurious double suites, complete with en-suite bathrooms, with spa bath, indoor and outdoor showers. Decorated in an African theme, the suites boast open fireplaces, air conditioning and private verandahs.
Children sharing a room with parents in our double suite’s have there own beds. We bring in room dividers to make it as private as possible for Parents and Children. Cots are available on request.
Family Chalets will be available by March 2008.
Parents and children can have meals together, as there are two dining rooms that enable us to split groups, but you as the Parents have the choice!
- Special occasions such as birthday parties can be catered for.
- Special Kiddies Meals – Our Chefs chocolate mousse is to die for!
All Game Activities and meals are included in the rate.
Bukela Game Lodge is conveniently situated 40 minutes from Port Elizabeth and 30 minutes from Grahamstown in the Bushmans River Private Game Reserve, which forms part of the Amakhala Game Reserve, and is in close proximity to pristine beaches and the coastal towns such as Kenton-on-sea.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- All rates are in South African Rands and include vat.
- Children are considred to be under the age of 12, and child rate applies when sharing with two adults
- Pilots, drivers, guides and tour leader rates may vary but will not exceed R900 per night, rate includes all meals and accommodation only.
- Whilst every effort is made to accommodate children, Bukela reserves the right to provide alternative meal arrangements for children
- Generally, and except where children are accommodated on safari by means of a 'bush bumble' Children under the age of 6 are not
permitted on game drives. Children between 6 and 12 years are permitted at the sole discresion of the game ranger
- Please note that all guests will be required to sign an indemnity form on arrival.
- Bukela reserves the right to limit the number of reduced rate requests as may apply to drivers, pilots and guides
- Bukela reserves its rights to admit any guest/s and furthermore retains the right to have removed, any guest/s whose behaviour
impacts negatively on other guests and / or staff.
CANCELLATION POLICY - Individual Guests (9 or less)
- A 20% deposit will be required to confirm a booking, with full payment due 7 days before arrival.
- Bookings cancelled within 45 days of arrival will forfiet their deposit.
- Bookings cancelled within 30 days of arrival will be required to pay 50% of total invoice value.
- Bookings cancelled within 15 days of arrival will be required to pay 90% of total invoice value.
