With sweeping views across a tranquil lake, the five star Kapama Lodge is situated on the 13 000 ha Kapama Private Game Reserve and is the epitome of luxury accommodation, offering both land and water activities.
| Children’s Facilities & Policy |
Kapama welcomes children of all ages.
Children up to the age of 6 will not be permitted on normal safaris, so we invite children under 6 to join their parents on a 'bush bumble' where we will be careful to avoid potentially dangerous game! This mini safari will be done between normal safari times and will be for approximately two hours. Subject to availability, sole use of a land rover is possible at a private safari rate.
For kiddies aged 3 to 8 years old, there are activities based around free supervised play. There is a sandpit, climbing frame, chalk boards, colouring in, play station, wild life dvd’s, plus wildlife collage and cooking workshops. The kiddies are taken on short interpretive walks around the lodge garden area with basic bird identification, trees, insects etc.
For kiddies aged 9 years and older there is fishing, wildlife DVD's; interpretive walks in the camp and the around nearby Nyala dam which parents are welcome to join in on; talks by the rangers about their job, which is something exciting as everyone wants to be a ranger at some point in their lives; skulls and animal general talk; spoor castings with plaster of Paris; bark rubbings and tree identification; bird calls and bird identification; insect collection and mounting; game drive; game walks which parents are welcome to join in on; reading and research on specific subjects current to that month; drawing, painting and colouring-in, and making of collages with seeds, leaves, bark etc.
Older children may be taken to shoot with an air rifle under ranger supervision.
Babysitiing is available at R 30.00 per hour.
A maximum of 2 children under 12 years are accommodated sharing with adults. The child sharing rate is 50% the adult sharing rate.
Twenty spacious, en suite luxury thatched chalets, decorated to reflect the rich textures of Africa, are set in tranquil indigenous gardens. The suites are all air-conditioned and have ceiling fans, mini bar fridges, hot beverage facilities, telephone and private patio/deck.
The family safari suite has been especially designed to ensure that we are able to accommodate both parents and kiddies in a configuration which ensures that parents are afforded privacy and that the children, who are in an adjoining suite, do not have to leave the chalet in order to reach their parents room. Both suites will have en-suite bathrooms and added to this is the fact that children occupying their own room will not be penalised with adult surcharges. We will also offer the family an exclusive game drive each day, in addition to the regular day programme. Parents can also elect to enjoy a private dinner on their deck.
Superb gourmet meals are served in the main dining room, the boma or in a secluded bush venue under a star-studded sky.
The staff at Kapama Lodge offer unsurpassed personalised service to ensure that both the splendour of the bush and the luxurious accommodation are enjoyed to the full.
The tea deck is a relaxing venue to observe an abundance of birds in their natural habitat or to enjoy cocktails on balmy evenings. The library and lounge offers a warm welcome on cool winter evenings, whilst the swimming pool offers refuge to the hot African sun. The reception, offering guests access to Internet and fax facilities, and the well-stocked curio shop, where you can purchase some memorabilia, lead out towards the wooden decking and the open air bar.
Accompanied by highly skilled game rangers, guests set out on early morning and evening game drives, to discover the wonder of the African bush and a unique encounter with its majestic inhabitants. An elephant back safari is an optional extra exclusive to Kapama Game Reserve guests.
Additional activities in the nearby vicinity include Kruger National Park, the Cheetah Research Centre, Clay Pigeon shooting and Hot Air ballooning.
Air charters can be arranged on the daily flight from Johannesburg International Airport or Kruger Mpumalanga Airport. Guests will then be collected, free of charge, from the Eastgate airport and be transferred, for approximately 20 minutes, to the lodge in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles.
Kapama has Public Liability Insurance and offers Medical evacuation when necessary. There are qualified First Aiders on site. The nearest doctor and hospital is in Hoedspruit, 40 km away. |
