Situated on a private Manyeleti Reserve concession, within the Greater Kruger National Park, Tintswalo is an exclusive safari lodge which is abounding in big five game and spectacular bird life.

The pristine wilderness Manyeleti Reserve is bordered to the north by Timbavati Private Reserve, south by Sabi Sand Reserve and on the fenceless eastern boundary the reserve is open to the Kruger National Park. Manyeleti is unique for its minimal vehicle density and so offering a true exclusive safari experience.

Children’s Facilities & Policy

Children are welcome at the Manor house and Presidential suite.

Tintswalo offers a Children’s Program which aims to provide young visitors with a fun, educational perspective of the African bush, thus enriching their safari experience with us.

On arrival children will be introduced to their Field Guide or Children’s coordinator and be informed about the activities, workbook, and most importantly safety procedures. The children will each receive a “Brat Bag” with pen, pencil, bino’s, cup and Activity Workbook for them to take home.

Each day’s events will be divided into themes concentrating on different aspects of the Bush. Each theme consists of a talk, game drive and an activity. The themes below are a guideline of what can be offered, and the program is flexible to suit individual booking requirements.

On each game drive snacks and drinks will be provided. Special children’s menus are also offered at the Lodge. Game drives and walking activities will be conducted in accordance with Tintswalo safari policies with particular emphasis on safety procedures.

All activities in the Children’s Program are age appropriate and the Program has been compiled by a professional educator. The Activity Workbook is designed for children of school going age but activities for toddlers are arranged as well. Games and TV are also available. Childminding is available at additional cost.

Typical 5 day Experience:

DAY 1
Theme: SOUTH AFRICA AND SHANGAAN CULTURE
This theme concentrates on our country. Information on the area Tintswalo is in, its people, our flag, etc will be given. This first game drive is used to explain the safety guidelines and offer an Introduction to the Bushveld - why it’s called the Bushveld and what makes it unique. Activities include painting the South African Flag on T-shirts and African Bead making.

DAY 2
Theme: BUSH SUPERMARKET AND RESTAURANT
This theme concentrates on what humans can survive on in the bush and what animals eat. The game drive focuses on trees, shrubs, grasses, animal droppings, etc. The activity includes collecting of plant items whist on drive, followed by collage making and leaf prints.

DAY 3 and 4
Theme: TRACKING
This theme can run over two days. It concentrates on teaching children the different spoor (tracks) of animals and also tracking techniques. Children are taught how to follow animals and look for distinguishing signs. Plaster of Paris footprint moulds are made and then painted. (Littlies can do play dough.) A Treasure Hunt can be arranged to test their new techniques by following spoor “made” by their field guide.

NIGHT 3 or 4
Theme: STAR GAZING
This theme concentrates on our solar system, as well as showing children prominent stars in our spectacular southern hemisphere skies. The activities include painting of the planets and stars  and making “Mooncatchers”.

DAY 5
Theme: INSECTS AND BIRDS
This theme concentrates on our feathered friends and small creatures. The Game Drive includes finding our Small 5, as well as butterflies, lizards, frogs, etc. Birds and bird calls are also identified. Mosaic kits will be supplied for the children to make pictures.

Every day can be ended with an authentic Shangaan Story – told by the Field Guide or one of the Shangaan Staff Members.

Accommodation

Tintswalo Manor house has an intimate homely setting with complete privacy. Luxury en-suite air-conditioned rooms over look a water hole that often welcomes thirsty visitors of all kinds.

Down stairs the Manor has 3 en-suite air-conditioned twin or double bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has an optional child's room which leads off it. Upstairs is the main double en-suite bedroom with a beautiful view of far off bushveld.

The Baines Presidential Suite has two full suites joined by a spacious living area and open plan kitchen. Dining at the presidential can either be experienced in the privacy of the suite, served by a Tintswalo chef or guests may enjoy any of the main lodge dining venues.
Guests in the presidential can remain in quiet seclusion with private guided activities or can make use of the main lodge facilities. Children are welcome in this suite, main lodge facilities are however for adults only, unless prior arrangement has been made.

Dining

Dining at the manor is enjoyed on the patio or in the open air boma under the awesome Manyeleti night sky. The wizardry of dining al fresco with a fusion of the unique tastes and spices of Africa is a challenge readily accepted by our chefs.

Tintswalo's chefs are trained in both South African and international cooking styles. Plated meals are served in sophisticated dining areas, including the romantic cellar and under the star scape of the African night sky. Private dining is available on request, and we will cater for any special dietary requirement when informed in advance

General Facilities

The Manyeleti Reserve was established in 1963 and was historically used only by black South Africans during the apartheid era. Since the change over from the old government systems the reserve has been taken over by the Provincial Limpopo Parks and Tourism Board and is now one of the highly desirable safari destinations within the Greater Kruger National Park areas. In the New South Africa community partnerships and new concession holders have transformed this pristine reserve into a successful sustainable joint eco-tourism venture.

The Manor house is situated within the Tintswalo Concession. It is a large thatched Manor boasting a crystal blue swimming pool, deep shaded patio and traditional boma.

Manor house guests may enjoy the facilities of the Élan Vital spa at the Tintswalo Main lodge.

A perfect combination! After a long day's exploration in the bush, moments of supreme relaxation, inner peace and rejuvenation of one's spirituality. Elan Vitál spa specializes in hands-on treatment for both men and women utilizing concentrated plant-based Elemis products to stimulate all your senses.

Tintswalo's schedule is infinitely flexible. The day's activities are planned around you, the guest. A typical day would start with an early morning game drive and perhaps a picnic breakfast, followed by an alfresco lunch on the patio and afternoon leisure time to allow for a relaxing spa treatment. The evening drive continues into the night and your day is rounded by a crystal candlelit dinner served in the open air boma.

Game viewing at Tintswalo takes place on foot or in individually seated open landrovers. The vehicles are equipped with spot lights for night viewing, radios for communication with the lodge and other guides and of course mosquito repellent. Individual blankets are always provided for the night chill.

Walks in the reserve are guided through the ever changing environment of the African bush. This experience allows the guest the opportunity to come away with information on wildlife, nature enlightenment and insight into the local Shangaan traditions; this is only obtainable with an 'on the ground' experience.

All our experienced guides are FGASA accredited; they are always accompanied by skilled trackers who know their surroundings well

Manyeleti, in the Shangaan language means place of the stars. Tintswalo's guides have extensive knowledge of the night sky and are equipped with a Meade telescope to plot the southern hemisphere constellations.

The Manyeleti is in a unique central geological location. It enjoys both the northern and southern bird species of this wilderness region. It is well known for its huge diversity, well over 400 species, from large raptors to the resident kingfishers that frequent the hand railings and trees at the lodge.

The surrounding community is predominantly from the Shangaan tribe. Historically settled within the Lower regions of Southern Africa this tribe was defeated in the 1800s by Shaka Zulu. The chief Shoshangana fled over the Lebombo Mountains and settled once again in areas reaching across the Mozambique border and South Africa.

The Shangaan have largely retained their culture, being rich in folk lore and story telling. Strongly spiritual people they believe in the presence of their ancestors. A visit to the local community is not a tourist related activity, but rather an experience to see the dynamics of our local communities. How life in Africa is lived.

Anti malaria tablets are advised all the year round but long sleeve shirts, mosquito repellent, trousers secured around the ankles, plus mosquito netting on every bed, keeps most 'mossie's' away after sunset, which is the only time that Malaria infected mosquitoes are dangerous.

All guests are automatically covered by the Tintswalo Safari Lodge policy. If emergency hospitalisation is required, rapid transport by road or air is available. However, it is a condition of booking with Tintswalo that each and every guest be adequately covered by their own comprehensive travel and medical insurance.

Tintswalo in the Shangaan language means the intangible feeling of love, gratitude and peace that you bestow upon someone who has given you a meaningful and worthy gift. This is what our guest’s experience!
