| General Facilities and Activities |
The accommodation and facilities are in turn-of-the century style architecture. Sandstone walls, wooden floors and corrugated roofing blend into the indigenous bush and ancient ruins that surround the lodge site, along the bank of the Heys brook. Whilst the lodge is at an altitude of 1 200 m above sea level (300 m lower than Johannesburg), the highest point on the estate is 2 100 m and is only one kilometre from the lodge. Accordingly evenings are cool and the days are warm. The Heysbrook stream runs the length of the property, some seven kilometres, and supports a wild population of small rainbow and brown trout.
The Lodge facilities include a lounge, bar, library, indoor dining area and Summer House.
Between delicious gourmet meals Heysbrook will occupy every moment. During the heat of the day, it may be best to spend time in the natural rock pool, whilst early mornings and afternoons may bring some of South Africa's rich history to within your grasp.
There are several walks, one of which could be in search of the last remaining Long Tom cannon reported to have been left on Heysbrook. Others include a visit to Anglo-Boer war fortifications and Paschner gold mine.
Heysbrook offers excellent Brown trout fishing and exceptional birding with over 300 species of birds.
Nearby activities include visits to Pilgrims Rest, Bourkes Luck Potholes, the Long Tom Pass, Kaapsehoop, Sudwala Caves and the famous Kruger National Park.
Heysbrook Country Lodge has qualified First Aiders on site and offers its guests Public Liability Insurance and Medical evacuation if necessary. |
