| Children’s Facilities & Policy |
There can be little quite as special as sharing an African safari with your children. It is in our experience that we also need to adjust the style with which we conduct a safari to appeal to children. We are also obliged to make certain that we do all we can not to disrupt our other guests.
It is important to note that whilst children are welcome at Ivory Tree, we regret that children under the age of 6 are not permitted on game drives and children between the age of 6 and 12 years of age are permitted on game drives at the discretion of the guide.
In the event that children are denied a regular safari and subject to availability we will offer a kiddies bush bumble, this is a shortened safari concentrating on the little things in the bush and avoiding deliberate encounters with the big 5.
Ivory Tree will accommodate a maximum of 2 children under 12 years sharing with adults. The child sharing rate is 50% of the adult sharing rate.
Babysitting is available at R 30.00 per hour.
The 60 double luxury suites are set in a horse-shoe shape on the edges of the amphitheatre basin within the magnificent indigenous bush and offering complete privacy. Decorated in a range of earthy tones ranging from terra cottas to deep blues, the rooms have been carefully co-ordinated to ensure comfortable seating both indoors and out. Each suite features a full en-suite bathroom, an outdoor shower, air-conditioning, under floor heating, mini bar fridges, hot beverage facilities and private deck.
It is also possible to introduce a third bed into the room in the event that a child/children wish to share with parents. It is not possible to add a fourth bed.
Ivory Tree Game Lodge offers a range of dining areas from the indoor multi-tiered dining room, to alfresco pool deck dining to boma dinners around the log fire. Bush dining is available at an additional cost, and minimum numbers do apply. Whilst every effort is made to accommodate children, Ivory Tree reserves the right to provide alternative meal arrangements for children.
The stately thatched main area enjoys picturesque views over the breathtaking landscape. These guest areas have been carefully planned to ensure easy flowing and comfortable areas. The areas were designed with the view to accommodating a group or to provide intimate retreats ensuring privacy. The central areas include two lounges with fireplaces, the well-stocked bar and cocktail lounge, a library, a multi-tiered dining room, the curio shop, fax and Internet facilities, a viewing sala and open air boma. The central areas were designed using a double volume style to ensure impressive views of the surrounding amphitheatre. The large rock swimming pool has been positioned between the lodge and the new completed water hole.
Morning and evening game drives into the bushveld are offered by qualified rangers. Ivory Tree uses custom built 10 seater open game viewers which permit maximum all around visibility. The park is home to a wide variety of general game including elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, black and white rhino, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, giraffe, zebra, over 14 antelope species, great birdlife and a huge diversity of flora. Each group of guests is assigned a personal guide who is tasked with interpreting the sights and sounds of the African bush. Your guide will spend time with you at dinners and is always around to ensure that you remain comfortable during your stay with us.
Indulge yourself in the Spa which boasts over 52 different treatments. Spa Treatments are made possible through the partnership with Mangwanani, and therapists convert one or more private lounge areas within the lodge environs into a haven of aromas and sensations.
There are also a numerous activities which occur in and around the Pilanesberg National Park, which include hot air ballooning, elephant back rides and golf at the nearby Sun City complex.
Ivory Tree Game Lodge is situated in the north eastern region of the, the closest point of entry is through Bakgatla Gate. Ivory Tree is a mere 2 ½ hours drive from Johannesburg and has been ideally positioned to create a magical and mystical guest experience.
